So . . . what is the difference between a matriculated and non-matriculated student? Does it really matter? Yes! Matriculated students have applied and been accepted into a certificate or degree program at the College; are eligible for financial aid; have been assigned an academic advisor. Non-matriculated students have not been admitted; are not eligible for financial aid; register for courses on their own; are not assigned an academic advisor. Here are our top ten reasons to become a matriculated student: 10. You are eligible to live in college housing. Only matriculated students can live on campus and enjoy the many advantages that enhance their educational experience. From quick access to classrooms and campus facilities to having meals prepared for them, many students enjoy the benefits that living on campus provides. More information can be found online at www.cmcc.edu/campus_life/housing.asp or call 755-5351. 9. You will receive important communications from the college. Now that you have identified the goals for your education, CMCC can contact you with important information to assist you with meeting those goals! 8. You could qualify for tutoring through the TRiO Student Support Services program. The TRiO program provides a variety of services for students meeting specific eligibility requirements. Services include academic advising, transfer advising, tutoring, cultural activities, workshops and programs for study skills, time management, etc.
7. You can register for the First Year Seminar.
6. You can utilize the Advantage U program & Transfer Advisor services. As a liberal studies student, you can participate in the Advantage U program which gives students an additional advisor who will assist them in selecting courses that will transfer more easily into a baccalaureate degree program at one of Maine’s universities. This advisor will also assist you with the coordination of all application materials needed for acceptance at your next college or university for FREE! 5. You can register for courses before they become open to the public. Ever wonder why the classes you want to take are full when try you register? Matriculated students enjoy priority in registration. They can register a full month in advance for spring classes and up to four months in advance for fall courses - before registration opens to the public! There are also many courses that are only open to matriculated students (ex. nursing and automotive classes). 4. You are assigned an advisor to help you select courses that best fit your needs. Once you complete the application process and have been admitted into a degree program, you are assigned an advisor who will work with you during your time at CMCC. Thinking of transferring? Your advisor can also help you choose electives that will transfer more favorably to a baccalaureate degree program. 3. You can set up a payment plan when registering for courses. Matriculated students may choose to set up a payment plan. This interest free plan divides your bill it into four equal payments (with a $35 service fee added to the first payment). Non-matriculated students must submit full payment at the time of registration.
2. You could qualify for financial
aid.
1. Your degree or certificate program requirements won’t change on you! In order to graduate from a degree or certificate program, all students must have applied and been admitted to a program of study. Once you are admitted into a degree program, you have a contract with CMCC for the program requirements listed in the catalog for that academic year. Changes in program requirements that are made subsequently will not apply to you (providing you have maintained your matriculation status). For more information about the application process, please contact the Admissions Office at 207-755-5273 or 800-891-2002 ext 273. |
