The College
In 1963 legislation was enacted which established a vocational technical institute in the Auburn-Lewiston area.
Originally named the Androscoggin State Vocational Institute and located in Lewiston, the school was renamed Central
Maine Vocational Technical Institute by the State Board of Education in 1965, and relocated to its present campus in
Auburn in 1966. In September of 1989, legislation authorized a change in name to Central Maine Technical College.
As of July 1, 2003 legislation again authorized a change in name to Central Maine Community College.
Central Maine Community College is one of seven colleges of the Maine Community College System. The System is governed by a Board of Trustees whose members are appointed by the Governor. In 1978 the State Board of Education authorized the College to confer Associate Degrees. Accreditation
Central Maine Community College is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.
The Architectural and Civil Engineering Technology Associate Degree program is accredited by the Technology
Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology, Inc. (ABET). The Associate Degree
Nursing and the Practical Nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing. The Automotive
Technology program is fully certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. The
Electromechanical Technology program meets the requirements of the State of Maine Electrician's Examining Board.
Graduation requirements
Associate Degrees, Diplomas or Certificates are awarded to students who have successfully completed prescribed
course requirements of cataloged programs offered by the college and have achieved a cumulative grade point
average of 2.00 or higher.
Grading system
Letter grades are used to report academic achievement. The letters are translated to grade points for the purpose
of calculating semester and cumulative grade point averages, using the following table:
Other grades and symbols that may appear on a student's transcript include:
AW = Administrative Withdrawal (not computed in grade point average) W = Withdrew Passing (not computed in grade point average) R = Course retaken, only best grade used in grade point average T = Transfer Credit (not computed in grade point average) WP = Withdrew Passing (not computed in grade point average) WF = Withdrew Failing (computed as 0.00 in grade point average) P = Passing (Indicates successful course challenge - "test out", or used in "Pass-Fail" courses; not computed in grade point average). A "P" grade is equivalent to a "C" grade or higher. I = Incomplete (not computed in grade point average) * = Grade carried to another semester or not reported by instructor (not computed in grade point average) AU = Audit, non-credit participation (not computed in grade point average) M = Grade omitted from record/amnesty granted L = Stopped attending a course without officially "Dropping." The grade of "L" will be computed as an "F." Determination of Academic Credit
Credit hours for a course are determined by the following guidelines:
Transfer Credit
Students may transfer credits earned at other regionally accredited post-secondary institutions to Central Maine
Community College by furnishing an official transcript of work completed and a catalog course description from the
institution(s) where the course(s) was completed. Courses determined to be equivalent in purpose and content to a
Central Maine Community College course will be accepted for credit providing that a grade of "C" (NOT C-) or better
was earned. Transfer credit is not included in the computation of the student's grade point average.
Authentication
This transcript of the student's academic record is official when it bears the facsimile signature of the Director
of Registration and Records and is embossed with the seal of Central Maine Community College.
