Faculty Member of the Year - 2010

JOHN WILSON

John Wilson, chairperson of the graphic communications program, is our faculty member of the year for 2010.

John has been a devoted and hard-working member of the CMCC faculty for more than 25 years. As chair of the Graphic Communications - John has worked tirelessly to ensure the program always maintains the highest standards.

An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, John earned his bachelor’s degree at Fitchburg State College and his master’s at USM. After teaching at a Technical High School in Massachusetts, John began his career at CMCC in 1985.

Under John's guidance, the Graphic Communications program has undergone a significant conversion and curriculum change that includes new design options. He has also guided the acquisition and installation of significant equipment upgrades and the integration of new design options that have laid the foundation for program expansion and enrollment growth.

John has a long history of serving on various committees and was instrumental in helping to guide the College through the most recent accreditation process and in developing the College’s strategic plan.

Staff Person of the Year Award 2010

WALTER RIDLON

Our Staff Person of the Year is Walter Ridlon, director of career pathways.

Walter Ridlon is a very well-known and admired man throughout the state of Maine in colleges, high schools, technical centers, and adult education centers.

His 30+ years of experience in high school coaching, administration, and guidance made him the ideal choice in 1999 to take on the position of director of tech prep, now called the Director of Career Pathways. In this position Walter is responsible for developing college and career transition initiatives and articulation agreements that enable students to actually begin a college program at the high school level.

Walter has been successful at developing fruitful relationships with colleagues, students, and constituents throughout Maine and New England. In fact, Walter has been the catalyst for the more than 50% increase in out-of-state students over the last six years. He has been a presenter at a national Tech Prep convention, numerous Maine conferences, and many state associations outside of Maine. Closer to home, Walter has volunteered his time to coach the newly-formed CMCC golf team, leading them to their most successful season last fall.

Dean of Student Services Randall Lee notes that he recently visited a Career Center in Maine and when he asked what else CMCC could do for them and their students, the reply was, “I can’t think of a thing because Walter Ridlon always takes care of us!”
