IN-HOUSE PROGRAM
Choose from an associate in applied science degree or a one-year certificate.
Our in-house program uses competency-based assessment to advance students on an individual basis through hands-on projects, both inside and outside the classroom. Through a combination of classroom study, mock-ups, and live projects, students in the Building Construction Technology obtain hands-on experience and become broadly familiar with methods, standards, and codes commonly associated with the construction industry.
STUDENTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE THROUGH:
- Classroom study, interpretation of construction documents, print reading, sketches, mock-ups, cost estimates, and live projects.
- Concentration on core communication, construction skills and progression at an individual rate matching individual growth. Fundamental construction skills are assessed periodically through competency testing.
- Assigning projects based on student abilities to allow project time to more closely follow job-site practices.
- Establishing a working ePortfolio of growth and accomplishments as an eResume, illustrating strength, commitment, and focus prospective employers seek.
JOBSITE PROGRAM
Earn an associate in applied science degree.
Our Jobsite program has students work on jobsites with a local construction company. Students who complete the jobsite track will not only earn an associate’s degree, but will likely have a job waiting for them with their internship employer. The Building Construction Jobsite program provides students with alternating classroom and laboratory training with paid, on-the-job experience, leading to an associate degree in Building Construction Technology. The program prepares students with skills required to meet industry needs through hands-on construction training on the jobsite.
STUDENTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE THROUGH:
- Classroom and laboratory study including interpretation of construction documents, print reading, sketches, mock-ups, cost estimates, live projects, and more.
- Paid on-the-job experience on a construction jobsite with an approved, professional construction company.
The Building Construction Jobsite degree is a joint effort between residential and commercial construction companies and Central Maine Community College.
