Forensic Science
The Forensic Science associate in applied science degree is designed for students who want to learn how to process crime scenes, handle physical evidence, and prepare a wide range of criminal cases. This program prepares students for various law enforcement positions, as well as careers in crime labs, medical examiners, or coroners’ offices. Degree-specific skills include professional/legal handling of evidence, crime scene preservation and processing, and the overall investigative process.
STUDENTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN:
- Fundamental concepts of chemistry and biology as related to forensic investigation
- Documentation and oral description of crime scenes, physical evidence and scientific processes
- Photographing crime scene evidence
- Collection, examination, comparison and identification of fingerprints
- Collection of blood, trace and fiber evidence
- Casting of shoe print impressions
- Assistance in identifying deceased individuals
